The Rhinothon is the fundraising event for Rhino Charge Car 27. It is a unique day and night cycling marathon, for teams of ten riders. The riders cycle over a challenging, rough track, in relay fashion i.e. only one rider from each team is on the track at any time. As riders tire, they hand over the lap recording card to fellow riders. The event starts at 2.00pm on a Saturday afternoon and ends at 8.00am the next morning. The whole track is floodlit during the night to facilitate night riding, safely. Each team has its own team tent, to rest in and for refreshments. Many teams do their own cookouts behind their tents, even though there is a huge mess tent with food and drinks vendors selling all varieties of refreshment. There is always a DJ on site providing great music throughout the 18 hours of cycling, keeping riders going and spectators entertained. There is also a cycle mechanic on site to assist with punctures and other repairs.

Also on site, is a full medical team and ambulance, in case of any mishaps. Luckily, in the ten years or so of the event, there have been no major injuries to riders. The general atmosphere is awesome and corporates find it a great team building event. It has many different age groups from 7 year olds to adults and every category gets winners and runners up trophies as well as certificates indicating the sponsorship amounts raised. All proceeds go to the Rhino Ark Charitable Trust as Team 27's Rhino Charge sponsorship. The event is generally slotted into a weekend during the Easter school holidays, preferably the Saturday immediately after the term ends. Entries are free, but teams are required to get minimum sponsorships to Rhino Ark, varying with age groups. There are also prizes for highest individual and team collectors.
