Greensteds is an international school based near Nakuru and Rhino Charge is part of their out-of-class program. About 50 pupils voluntarily choose to join the Rhino Charge Club in September and then spend 7 months doing everything they can to raise the KES 350,000 expenses and sponsorship.

Typically they cook and sell refreshments during school functions, take and print photographs at formal occasions and sell roses on Valentine’s day. They organise grooves, a bonfire night, movie nights, mid-night football, an ice bucket challenge and fancy dress days.

The major fund raising event, the Greensteds Run-A-Ton, is the 110km sponsored run from Narok to Greensteds via the Maasai Mau for which 3 or 4 teams run multiple 2km legs to finish after about 9 hours. The whole school gets involved from youngest to oldest and a few individuals cycle the whole distance including the 1km altitude change.

Finally a team of the most active 10 to 15 students is selected to run the Guard Post and to be Control Officers. They must then plan the journey, equipment, food and strategies needed to deliver a quality experience for all competitors on the day of the charge.
